Why I started Kindoly

Hi, I'm Megan Carter. Before starting Kindoly, I spent seven years working in pet food e-commerce. But the most important part of my life has always been at home: a corgi named Waffles and a Ragdoll cat named Mochi.

Waffles is perfect in every way — except for thunder. Colorado summers bring storms almost every week from June through August. Mochi's worry is different: being alone. Whenever the house is empty, Mochi disappears into the very back of the closet and won't come out until we're home.

One July, the forecast called for a severe thunderstorm. I'd bought everything in advance — the top-rated option online, the one the pet store recommended, the one a friend said "worked okay" for her dog. I tried all three.

The first had an ingredient list so long that I spent three hours researching it and only felt less sure. The second did make Waffles quiet — but it was the wrong kind of quiet. Waffles lay in bed with eyes half-open, and barely looked up when I called. The trembling stopped that night, but the toy never came to my feet like it always does. It was as if someone had pressed pause. Mochi watched from across the room, and I sat between them feeling awful.

I wanted Waffles to be less afraid of thunder — and still be Waffles.

Still the dog who sprints to the door at the word "walk" and wiggles like a propeller. And I wanted Mochi to feel safe when I left, not curled up in the back of a closet.

After that night, I started researching — really reading. What amounts of L-theanine have been studied in dogs. Where chamomile's safety limits are for cats. Whether GABA can cross the blood-brain barrier. Why some products are designed to make pets drowsy and others aren't. I read the studies, talked with veterinarians, and asked friends who work in pet nutrition, one question at a time.

And I realized something: good ingredients aren't the problem. Clarity is. Vague labels, undisclosed amounts, and customer service that talks in circles leave pet parents stuck between "I don't want them to be scared" and "I don't want them to be out of it" — and forced to take a gamble.

I didn't want to gamble anymore. So I started Kindoly.
